Description: Samarium, denoted by the chemical symbol Sm and atomic number 62, is a medium-hard, lustrous silver-white metal that oxidizes easily when exposed to air.
Samarium has a melting point of 1345K (1072°C) and a boiling point of 2064K (1791°C). As a typical lanthanide element, samarium primarily exhibits a +3 oxidation state. Common samarium(II) compounds include SmO, SmS, SmSe, and SmTe. This element should be kept away from acids, oxides, and moisture. While it dissolves in acids, it remains insoluble in water. Samarium readily combines with non-metallic elements and is naturally found in trivalent samarium salts. Its applications include serving as a neutron absorber, and in the production of optoelectronic equipment and various alloys.
Application:Samarium is integral in the production of laser materials, as well as microwave and infrared equipment. It also plays a significant role in the atomic energy sector.
