Iridium, a chemical marvel represented by the symbol Ir and atomic number 77, is a silvery-white metal that is both hard and brittle. Its unique properties allow it to be ductile when hot-processed and unannealed, easily transforming into filaments and sheets. However, once annealed, it reverts to its inherent hardness and brittleness. With a remarkable density of approximately 22.56 grams per cubic centimeter, a melting point of 2410±40ºC, and a boiling point of 4130ºC, iridium is structured in a face-centered cubic crystal formation.

 

Applications of Iridium: This versatile metal is essential in crafting pen tips, needles, balance blades, compass holders, and electrical contacts. It's instrumental in the creation of porous spinnerets and serves as crucial alloy additives, laser components, spark plug materials, and other high-temperature resistant raw materials.
