Description: Samarium, with the chemical symbol Sm and atomic number 62, is a medium-hard, silver-white metal that oxidizes readily when exposed to air.
Samarium boasts a melting point of 1345K (1072°C) and a boiling point of 2064K (1791°C). As a characteristic lanthanide, it typically exhibits an oxidation state of +3. Its most common compounds include SmO, SmS, SmSe, and SmTe. This element should be kept away from acids, oxides, and moisture due to its reactivity. It is soluble in acid but insoluble in water and easily forms bonds with non-metallic elements. In nature, samarium is most often found in trivalent samarium salts. Versatile in its applications, it serves as a neutron absorber, in optoelectronic equipment, and in alloy manufacturing.
Application:Samarium is integral in the production of laser materials, as well as microwave and infrared equipment. It also plays a vital role in the atomic energy industry.
