Elemental silicon has two allotropes, amorphous silicon and crystalline silicon. Amorphous silicon is black; crystalline silicon is steel gray, with obvious metallic luster, the same crystal lattice as diamond, hard and brittle, and can conduct electricity, but its conductivity is not as good as that of metal and increases with the increase of temperature, which belongs to semiconductor. When the heat treatment temperature is higher than 750°C, the silicon material changes from a brittle material to a plastic material, and under the applied stress, slip dislocations are generated to form plastic deformation. Silicon material also has some special physical properties, such as the volume shrinks when the silicon material is melted and the volume increases when solidified.
