Notably, gadolinium is magnetic at room temperature and relatively stable in dry air, though it loses its luster in humid conditions. With the highest thermal neutron capture cross-section, gadolinium is a rare gem in the periodic table. Found primarily in monazite and bastnaesite, it constitutes about 0.000636% of the Earth's crust. Leveraging gadolinium salts through magnetized refrigeration, temperatures approaching absolute zero can be achieved.
