This silver-white metal features a melting point of 1529°C, a boiling point of 2863°C, and a density of 9.006g/cm3. At lower temperatures, erbium exhibits antiferromagnetic properties, becoming strongly ferromagnetic near absolute zero, and also functions as a superconductor.
Application:Erbium’s most notable application is in the fabrication of Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA). Another critical area of application is in lasers, particularly those used in medical procedures. Additionally, erbium serves as a reactor control material and can act as an activated ion for rare earth upconversion laser materials. Its oxide, Er2O3, exhibits a rose-red hue and is utilized in pottery glazes and the ceramics industry to achieve a pink enamel.
