However, gold's tendency to diffuse into silicon wafers, forming high-resistance AuSi compounds, can significantly decrease current density, putting the entire wiring system at risk.

While pure nickel is generally employed for this adhesive layer, diffusion between the nickel and gold conductive layers remains an issue.
