Molybdenum, a distinguished metallic element with the symbol Mo and atomic number 42, belongs to the VIB group of metals. It boasts a formidable density of 10.2 g/cm3 and is recognized for its silver-white luster. Not only is molybdenum hard and tough, but it also exhibits a high melting point and excellent thermal conductivity. Remarkably, it remains unreactive with air at room temperature. As a transition element, it is adept at altering its oxidation state, with its ionic color shifting correspondingly.

The molybdenum (Mo) sputtering target mirrors the esteemed properties of its raw form. This pure variant is a silvery-grey metal with a Mohs hardness of 5.5 and a standard atomic weight of 95.95 g/mol. Welding Method of Molybdenum Sputtering Target

Preheat the molybdenum or molybdenum alloy target to ensure even solder distribution across its bonding surface. Similarly, preheat the back plate to ensure consistent solder distribution. The bonding surfaces of both the target and the back plate are then aligned to adhere and merge during the welding process, forming a unified target component. Cooling solidifies the structure, resulting in a high-strength molybdenum or molybdenum alloy target-back plate combination, particularly when using a copper back plate. This innovative welding method not only withstands the high-strength demands of the sputtering process but also minimizes deformation and warpage, even over large target areas.
