Revered for its high melting point, low vapor pressure, and minimal evaporation rate, this chemically stable metal remains unreactive with air or water at room temperature and is insoluble in hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and alkali solutions. Although aqua regia can oxidize its surface, tungsten uniquely withstands reactions with many elements. However, at elevated temperatures, it can forge combinations with ***, ***, iodine, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur, while exhibiting no reactivity with hydrogen.
