Despite its high melting point of 2995°C, which ranks fifth among elements, tantalum is relatively low in hardness, exhibiting a Vickers hardness of only 140 hv when annealed. This exceptional metal is highly malleable, capable of being drawn into thin wires, and has a remarkably low coefficient of thermal expansion, expanding just 6.6 parts per million per degree Celsius. Furthermore, its toughness surpasses that of copper, making it a versatile material for various applications.
Primarily found in tantalite and often coexisting with niobium, tantalum boasts moderate hardness and excellent ductility, allowing it to be drawn into thin foils or fine wires.
