Tungsten is a rare and exceptional high melting point metal with a melting point of 3410°C ±20°C and a boiling point of 5660°C, the highest among metals. As a silver-white, steel-like metal, tungsten's chemical properties are remarkably stable. It remains unreactive with air and water at room temperature and is insoluble in hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and alkali solutions. Though resistant to most reactions, its surface can be oxidized by aqua regia. At elevated temperatures, tungsten can combine with elements like ***, ***, iodine, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur, but not hydrogen.
