Description:
 

Iridium, denoted by the chemical symbol Ir and holding the atomic number 77, is a remarkable silvery-white metal known for its hardness and brittleness. When hot processed and not annealed, iridium becomes remarkably ductile, allowing it to be fashioned into filaments and sheets. However, annealing reverses this, rendering it hard and brittle once more. The metal boasts a high density of approximately 22.56 grams per cubic centimeter and an impressive melting point of 2410±40ºC, with a boiling point soaring to 4130ºC. It crystallizes in a face-centered cubic structure, making it ideal for advanced technological applications.

 

Applications of Iridium: This versatile metal finds utility in a variety of applications such as pen tip materials, specialized needles, balance blades, and compass holders. It is also essential in manufacturing electrical contacts and porous spinnerets. As an alloy additive, iridium enhances laser components, spark plug materials, and other high temperature-resistant raw materials.
