Samarium showcases a melting point of 1345K (1072°C) and a boiling point of 2064K (1791°C). This remarkable lanthanide often appears in a +3 oxidation state and forms notable compounds such as SmO, SmS, SmSe, and SmTe. Due to its high reactivity, samarium must be shielded from acids, oxides, and moisture. While it dissolves in acid, it remains insoluble in water and bonds easily with non-metals.
