As an additive in NdFeB permanent magnets, a mere 2-3% of dysprosium significantly enhances coercive force. While demand was once modest, the rising need for NdFeB magnets has propelled dysprosium into a crucial role, necessitating purity levels between 95% to 99.9%.
Dysprosium serves as a phosphor activator, with trivalent dysprosium being a promising ion for three primary color luminescent materials. It primarily emits two bands: yellow and blue. Dysprosium-doped materials are thus key in producing three primary color phosphors.
