Its most prevalent compounds include SmO, SmS, SmSe, and SmTe. Due to its reactivity, it should be kept away from acids, oxides, and moisture. While soluble in acid, samarium is insoluble in water and easily forms bonds with non-metallic elements. Naturally, samarium is most commonly found in trivalent samarium salts.
