Its common compounds include SmO, SmS, SmSe, and SmTe. Due to its reactivity, samarium should be kept away from acids, oxides, and moisture. It is soluble in acid but insoluble in water and easily forms bonds with non-metallic elements. Naturally, samarium is most commonly found in trivalent samarium salts.
