Tungsten is a rare, high melting point metal with a melting point of 3410±20°C and a boiling point of 5660°C, the highest among metals. As a member of the VIB group in the sixth period of the periodic table, tungsten appears as a silver-white metal resembling steel. It features a high melting point, low vapor pressure, and negligible evaporation rate. Tungsten’s chemical stability makes it non-reactive with air and water at room temperature, and it remains insoluble in hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and alkaline solutions, while only aqua regia can oxidize its surface. At elevated temperatures, it combines with ***, ***, iodine, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur, but not hydrogen.
