Description: Samarium, represented by the chemical symbol Sm and atomic number 62, is a medium-hard, silver-white metal that oxidizes readily upon air exposure.
Samarium presents a melting point of 1345K (1072°C) and a boiling point of 2064K (1791°C). As a distinctive lanthanide, it typically showcases an oxidation state of +3. Its most prevalent compounds include SmO, SmS, SmSe, and SmTe. Due to its reactivity, it should be kept away from acids, oxides, and moisture. While soluble in acid, samarium is insoluble in water and easily forms bonds with non-metallic elements. Naturally, samarium is most commonly found in trivalent samarium salts. Its versatility extends to applications such as neutron absorption, optoelectronic equipment, and alloy manufacturing.
