Despite its impressive melting point of 2995°C, ranking fifth highest among elements, tantalum is relatively soft with a Vickers hardness of 140 hv when annealed. Renowned for its malleability, it can be drawn into extremely thin wires and possesses an exceptionally low thermal expansion coefficient of just 6.6 ppm per degree Celsius.
