Description:The B6 octahedral network requires two electrons to maintain its structure, leaving one of La's three valence electrons abundant and enabling LaB6 to function as a metallic conductor. The surface plasmon resonance absorption of LaB6 nanomaterial centers around 1000 nm, addressing the limitations of traditional infrared blocking materials like ITO in the near-infrared spectrum, thus positioning LaB6 as a critical infrared blocking material. Owing to the strong covalent bonds between B atoms in the LaB6 matrix, a robust spatial network is formed, endowing it with low volatility, minimal work function, high melting point, exceptional strength, and outstanding stability. These properties make LaB6 a key field emission material, widely utilized in advanced instruments such as electron microscope filaments. With a density of 4.7 g/cm^3, LaB6 is among the more stable compounds in the B-La family, which also includes LaB2 and LaB4.
