Description: Erbium, with the elemental symbol Er and atomic number 68, occupies the 6th period in the periodic table's Lanthanide series (IIIB group). With an atomic weight of 167.26, this silver-white metal boasts a melting point of 1529°C, a boiling point of 2863°C, and a density of 9.006g/cm3. Erbium exhibits antiferromagnetic properties at low temperatures and becomes strongly ferromagnetic near absolute zero, also functioning as a superconductor.
Application:Erbium's foremost application lies in producing Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs). It's highly sought after in the laser industry, particularly for medical laser materials. Additionally, erbium plays a critical role as a reactor control material and serves as an activating ion for rare earth upconversion laser materials. Its oxide, Er2O3, exhibits a rose-red hue, making it ideal for pottery glazes and pink enamel in the ceramics industry.
