Gadolinium, represented by the symbol Gd and atomic number 64, boasts an atomic weight of 157.25. This silvery-white, malleable metal features a melting point of 1313°C, a boiling point of 3273°C, and a density of 7.901g/cm³. Exhibiting magnetic properties at room temperature, gadolinium remains stable in dry air but loses its sheen in humid conditions. With the highest thermal neutron capture cross-section, gadolinium is invaluable in numerous applications. Found in the earth's crust at a concentration of 0.000636%, it primarily exists in minerals such as monazite and bastnasite. When processed through magnetized refrigeration, gadolinium salts can achieve ultra-low temperatures nearing absolute zero.
